Morten Wierod Succeeds Björn Rosengrenas at ABB in the Role of CEO
The ABB Board of Directors has designated Morten Wierod as the forthcoming Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1, 2024, succeeding Björn Rosengren, who will retire from his CEO role on July 31, 2024, and officially retire by December 31, 2024. Transitioning from August 1, 2024, through the year’s end, Björn Rosengren will provide counsel and support to Morten Wierod and the Executive Committee, ensuring a smooth handover.
Looking ahead, ABB will initiate a search process to fill Wierod’s current position as Business Area President Electrification, reinforcing its commitment to sustained excellence and innovation in industrial transformation. With over 140 years of heritage and a workforce exceeding 105,000, ABB remains dedicated to driving forward industrial innovation.
Morten Wierod, a 52-year-old Norwegian national, emerges from a meticulous selection process conducted by the Board. Having joined ABB in 1998, he has served on ABB’s Executive Committee since 2019, previously as President of the Motion Business Area and presently as President of the Electrification Business Area. Wierod holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
Peter Voser, Chairman of ABB, expressed satisfaction with Wierod’s appointment, citing his comprehensive understanding of ABB’s operations and decentralized model, along with his extensive expertise and stellar performance record. Voser also commended Björn Rosengren for his remarkable leadership during his tenure.
Morten Wierod, appreciative of the Board’s confidence, emphasized his commitment to advancing ABB’s mission towards a low-carbon society, leveraging the company’s technological prowess and workforce. Meanwhile, Rosengren expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead ABB, expressing confidence in Wierod’s ability to steer the company forward.
