Wind of Change in the Leadership of Xiaomi

As Xiaomi expands its aspirations in the automotive sector, CEO Lei Jun has unveiled a leadership overhaul, placing a heightened emphasis on strengthening the electric vehicle (EV) business.

Lei Jun shared on Weibo that he has entrusted the general management of the Xiaomi brand to Liu Weibing, who currently serves as the President of the Group. This strategic shift underscores the company’s dedication to its EV ambitions.

As part of these leadership adjustments, Liu Weibing transitioned from the President of Xiaomi China to oversee the entire Mobile division, including public presentations during major smartphone launches. He relinquishes his role as the head of the Redmi brand, passing the reins to Wang Teng Thomas. Wang, equipped with extensive experience, previously served as the Director of New Xiaomi Products and led a regional Chinese office.

Lei Jun’s decision reflects Xiaomi’s substantial investment and focus on its automotive journey. While the company remains committed to its smartphone origins, this development underscores the escalating significance of the EV market within its strategic vision. The impact of these leadership changes on Xiaomi’s trajectories of both the mobile and electric vehicle segments will be closely observed in the coming years.
