Mettle has announced Michelle Prance as its new Chief Executive Officer. Michelle Prance succeeds Andy Ellis in the role of Mettle’s CEO. Ellis had taken over after the departure of Marieke Flament at the end of 2021 and has since assumed the position of CEO at NatWest’s Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) business, NatWest Boxed.

Michelle Prance, who joined NatWest in 2021 after stints at ABN Amro, Credit Suisse, CMC Markets, and Lloyds Banking Group, previously served as the Group Director for Customer and Colleague Journeys at NatWest. In her new role as Mettle’s CEO, she aims to address the traditionally underserved needs of the self-employed by facilitating a quick setup, timely payments, and tax readiness. Prance commended Mettle for breaking down barriers and simplifying banking for this demographic, citing features such as tax calculation and saving pots.

James Holian, Head of Business Banking at NatWest Group, expressed confidence in Prance’s capabilities, highlighting her wealth of experience in various banking roles focused on product, innovation, and strategy.

Launched in 2018, Mettle is NatWest’s digital-only bank catering to small businesses and the self-employed. It offers sole traders and freelancers a free business bank account along with various accounting, bookkeeping, and tax tools through its app.
