According to CEOWORLD magazine’s Global Happiness Ranking, Finland has been identified as the happiest country in the world. Researchers used statistical analysis since 2020 to conclude in their 2024 update. The researchers analyzed comprehensive polling data from 146 countries for the past four years to determine the happiest countries. The analysis specifically monitored performance categories: GDP per capita, social welfare support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make your own life choices, generosity of the general population, and perceptions of corruption levels.
Finland ranks as the world’s happiest country based on the 2024 Global Happiness Report, scoring 95,67 out of a total possible score of 100. Researchers credited the citizens of Finland with strong feelings of communal support and mutual trust. Additionally, Finlanders believed firmly that they were free to make their own choices and showed minimal suspicion of government corruption. Both of these factors are strong contributors to overall happiness.
The second-happiest country in the world is Denmark, with a score of 95,31. Denmark’s values for each of the variables are quite comparable to those of Finland. Denmark, in fact, is reported to have outscored the leader in multiple categories, including GDP per capita, generosity, and a perceived lack of corruption. This indicates that it may claim the top spot sometime shortly.
The top three happiest countries in the world for 2024 were all Northern European countries. Finland took top honors, with an overall score of 95.67, followed (in order) by Denmark (95.31) and Iceland (95.29). The least happy country in the world for 2024 was Eswatini, whose 146th-place ranking of 59,95 can be attributed in part to a low life expectancy rate and low gross domestic product rates per capita. Rounding out the bottom five are Lesotho (60.12), Kuwait (60.64), Turkmenistan (61.07), and Libya (61.86).
