Strava Welcomes the Leadership of Michael Martin as CEO

Strava, the digital community boasting over 120 million athletes, has announced that Michael Martin, the current general manager of YouTube Shopping, will step into the role of Chief Executive Officer and will also join the Strava Board of Directors starting January 2, 2024.

Martin brings extensive experience from Nike, where he oversaw their connected fitness portfolio, among other responsibilities. This transition follows the decision by Michael Horvath, Strava’s co-founder, to step down from the CEO position once a suitable leader was identified to guide Strava into its next phase of growth.

Under Horvath’s leadership, Strava’s community has grown significantly, and the company has operated profitably for consecutive years. Expressing confidence in Martin’s ability to continue this momentum, Horvath highlighted his support as an Executive Advisor to the CEO in the future.

Martin’s expertise in leading teams and building communities aligns well with Strava’s ongoing expansion. The company is looking to elevate its product offerings in 2024, building on recent updates like in-app Messaging and the upcoming Year In Sport global initiative.

Michael Moritz, a Strava board member and former Chairman of Sequoia Capital, emphasized Martin’s background in competitive digital markets and vast consumer experience, highlighting his suitability to build on the accomplishments of Strava’s founders.
