Transition Plan for the Leaders of BHP Group

BHP Group announced the appointment of Vandita Pant as the new Chief Financial Officer, effective from March 2024. Taking over from the current CFO David Lamont, Pant will assume her new role while Lamont transitions into a senior executive advisory position until February 2025.

Pant, who presently serves as the Chief Commercial Officer in Singapore, joined BHP in 2016, bringing extensive banking experience from roles held in India, Singapore, Japan, and the UK, including positions at ABN Amro and Royal Bank of Scotland.

Meanwhile, Johan van Jaarsveld, the current Chief Development Officer, will become the Chief Technical Officer, succeeding Laura Tyler, who will depart BHP after nearly two decades at the end of February.

Additionally, Rag Udd, the current President Americas, will take on the role of Chief Commercial Officer, while Brandon Craig, leading the iron ore division, will transition to head BHP’s Americas division.

CEO Mike Henry highlighted that these appointments aim to enhance organizational capacity by bringing in diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives to drive BHP’s strategy and growth agenda.

BHP, the world’s largest listed miner, reported its lowest annual profit since 2020 due to a decline in prices within its most profitable iron ore division, reflecting a slowdown in China’s property sector.

The company is banking on growth in Canadian potash and has bolstered its copper portfolio with a $6.4 billion acquisition of Australia’s Oz Minerals, aiming to align its assets with the energy transition.

Despite an increase in nickel production in Indonesia leading to price declines, BHP remains committed to nickel, primarily used in electric vehicle batteries, as a key growth sector.
