Miguel Fernandez Succeeds Juliet Zhu in the role of CFO at Carsome Group
Carsome Group Inc., Southeast Asia’s largest integrated car e-commerce platform, has appointed Miguel Fernandez as its Group CFO, starting from November 1, 2023. In his new role, he will report directly to Carsome’s Chairman and Group CEO, Eric Cheng. Miguel Fernandez takes over the CFO position from Juliet Zhu, who will continue to serve as Group President.
Eric Cheng, speaking on behalf of Carsome’s Board of Directors, extended a warm welcome to Miguel. He praised Miguel’s outstanding track record and his extensive global experience, particularly in the e-commerce industry. Cheng emphasized the significant contributions expected from Miguel, leveraging his financial, strategic, and operational strengths. Cheng also highlighted Miguel’s strategic acumen, financial leadership experience, and how valuable he would be to the team as they approach 2024, a year of accelerated profitable growth for Carsome.
Cheng concluded by expressing gratitude to Juliet Zhu, who has been serving as CFO since January 2020 and has played a pivotal role in Carsome’s growth journey over the past four years. He stated the intention to continue working closely with her to drive growth and synergy creation across Carsome’s businesses.
Miguel Fernandez, regarding his new role, stated, “Carsome’s commitment to innovation in elevating the customer and car ownership experience within Southeast Asia’s used car industry has unlocked significant value creation potential. I look forward to contributing to the firm’s financial strategy, operational excellence, and overall success in delivering the next normal of digitized car ownership in this region.”
Miguel brings with him a diverse background that spans various industries, including fintech, e-commerce, manufacturing, distribution, private equity, and financial services. His experience covers a wide spectrum of companies, from publicly traded to privately held and venture capital-funded firms. Miguel has held senior financial leadership positions at Fortune 100 companies such as Amazon, Dell, and Coupang, amassing nearly seven years of experience in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to joining Carsome, he served as the Group CFO at Maya, a fintech company in the Philippines backed by KKR and Tencent. Before that, he held the role of CFO at Coupang Fulfillment Services, which is Coupang’s largest subsidiary.
Miguel holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business and Logistics from Regis University, where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude Honors. Additionally, he completed an MBA in Finance and Information Systems from St. Edward’s University.
