What History Has Taught Us?

Schools all over the world dedicate a considerable amount of time to teaching us all sorts of things related to history. The reasons they prioritize history, even though many kids are not fond of it, are plenty. Regardless of why each nation wants its citizens to be aware of history, the lessons one can learn from it are wonderful. We could say history provides life lessons. If we all embrace these lessons, we could live happier and build a better world for the next generations. Curious to find out? Let us take a look.

  1. Peace is the fastest way to succeed
History is full of conflicts and wars. People from different countries or even people from the same country who just share different opinions are all fighting with each other to see who is wrong and who is right. However, the end of every war finds both sides exhausted not only financially but in many terms. Even the winners will have finally lost more at the end of the war than they will have gained. If they had followed the straight road to their goals, they would have saved time, money, and, most importantly, human lives, not to mention the environmental catastrophe that is a common consequence of a typical war.
  2. Dividing people allows their control
Big countries that have managed to conquer many places worldwide have followed this pattern. Most nations have adopted this idea in order to impose their dominance. Whenever they wanted to conquer a place, they let the people of that place fight each other first. Then they entered and took the side of the winner. Of course, conquerors played a significant role in creating a conflict between the citizens of the same nation in the first place. Conquerors also supported the ones they wanted to dominate so they could cooperate with them after they won the war. If you think about it, this practice is commonly used to ”win” conflicts in daily life. Regardless of whether it is an ethical approach or not, people still use it.
  3. Humans can do anything
This is a universal truth that only if we take a glimpse of what people have accomplished can we really understand its depth and significance. Now, it is important to point out that people can be incredibly innovative, not only about doing good but also bad things as well. A look at the practices people implemented in the Middle Ages in West Europe to punish people will be a sad surprise for us. At the same time, if we take a moment and think about how quickly humanity has managed to evolve over the last 3.000 years, we can only applaud this creature called humans that changed the world so drastically using the power of the mind. Nature has surely created a version of life that is more than brilliant. Today, we only question ourselves if we are too brilliant after all. Is this smartness going to affect our survival on this planet? Only the future will tell if humans will make it and if they will finally protect the home that hosts them.
  4. Money can move mountains
Most, if not all, wars that have taken place are based on financial interests. People are often under the impression that some wars are being held due to political differences or religious conflicts. Still, these are primarily excuses used to control the opinions of the crowds. The lower the level of education of a particular nation, the easiest it is to manipulate them. Once one has the crowd on their side, they can control them. You simply say what is wrong and what is right and what is worth fighting for, and then an army of people is ready to defend you and fight for you. People are often the puppets in a show with important financial interests.
