CEO Spotlight: CEO Miki Agrawal Wants to Talk About It All

If there is one thing that drives human beings, it is solving problems that are placed in front of them. This is especially true of entrepreneurs, where very often, the individuals who have the most creativity and dare to be different are the ones who see their dreams come true. This has been the case with Tushy founder Miki Agrawal, who, with her creative team, has taken the toilet industry by storm. If you’re curious about how serial entrepreneur Miki Agrawal found her way to the top and how she plans to continue being one of today’s most innovative minds, read on to find out about her journey and what’s in store in the months ahead.

Exploring and Questioning Everything

As a child who grew up in Montreal with an Indian father and a Japanese mother, Miki Agrawal found herself coming of age in a multicultural world. Intrigued by this, even at an early age, she spent much of her childhood exploring and questioning various ideas and how things were done.

Once she set out to be an entrepreneur, Agrawal decided to look at industries that had, in her opinion, been stale and lacking innovation for far too long, which is how she eventually began Tushy. Capitalizing on basic human functions and the need for change within the industry, Miki Agrawal put her creativity and innovation to the ultimate test.

Her Most Innovative Work as of Late

Always at the ready to lead the toilet industry in the development of new products, Miki and her company, Tushy, recently created a marketing campaign aimed at promoting a new product, the Tushy Ace. An electric bidet seat that is artfully designed and costs far less than many of its counterparts, Agrawal knew her campaign needed to be eye-catching, yet also show just how well the product worked. As she has stated on numerous occasions, “A product is only good if people know about it and are trying it.”

To accomplish this, she and her team came up with what those in the industry have deemed the “Bellagio Fountain” of Tushy bidets. Lined up side by side, a system was designed so that when symphony music was played, the bidets would spray like fountains in an exact match to the song. Definitely eye-catching, it was a perfect example of how Miki’s innovativeness and willingness to break down barriers has put her on the path to entrepreneurial success.

Changing the Future of Marketing

When asked about which innovations she is most looking forward to and how her company will change the future of marketing, Miki Agrawal often speaks about taking bigger and bigger creative risks with her company’s products. In fact, she and her team have the philosophy that the bigger the splash they make in terms of weirdness, the better the results will be in terms of publicity and ultimately sales.

As an example of this, she points to the launch of the Tushy Ace. Rather than simply introducing it to consumers in the usual way, Miki and her team have instead decided to follow her mother’s advice and “keep a little mystery.” To do so, Agrawal has come up with a mystery package featuring decks of cards, which will be sent to members of the press prior to the Tushy Ace launch.

By pulling out royal flushes from the decks and using the letters to unscramble the riddle, members of the press can then send in their answers to Tushy. Once the winning answer is submitted, Agrawal and her team will reveal only to that member of the press the Tushy Ace in all its glory. Believing experiential mystery will become the next big trend in marketing, Miki Agrawal is leading the way in keeping people on their toes and wondering what’s around the next corner.

Proudest Achievements of Her Career

As a successful entrepreneur, Miki Agrawal has had numerous achievements of which she is proud during her business career. However, there are a few of the experiential events that stand out to her for various reasons. First, there was the Funeral for a Tree. Renting out Judson Memorial Church in Washington Square Park, Agrawal and her team made it feel like a Broadway show. Most importantly, those who attended left with a fantastic impression of Tushy for taking the time to put on such an extravaganza.

Next, there was the much-discussed Butt-Con. A sold-out event that drew over 50 of the world’s top press outlets, it featured personal trainers to the stars, medical doctors, and even a porn star. While the name may have had people laughing initially, the event was praised for its professionalism and for being very informative.

While adept at putting on events that are over-the-top and get the attention of people everywhere, Miki Agrawal is also an author. Though she has written multiple books, it is her second release, titled “Disrupt-Her”, which she is most proud of. Believing it was her most creative and daring writing venture, she particularly enjoyed the video poem she made for it. Agrawal believes this showcased not only the creative essence of the book itself but also made many more people eager to see what was between its covers.

Questioning Her Career Path

Despite her immense success as an entrepreneur, Miki Agrawal has experienced a similar feeling to many other successful people and questioned her career path. However, while questioning whether some of her ideas would succeed, Agrawal has never once questioned becoming an entrepreneur. Labeling herself as “unemployable,” she knew from an early age that she was destined to do her own thing and forge her own path, however unconventional it may be. Essentially, she decided to give herself no choice but to become an entrepreneur, which forced her to make tough decisions and figure out things as they came each day.

The Mystery is What’s Missing

As Miki Agrawal looks around at the current state of marketing campaigns, she is convinced it’s the mystery that’s missing that is keeping companies of all sizes, in all types of industries, from succeeding. Based on her experiences with Tushy, Agrawal believes that drawing on people’s natural curiosity ultimately draws them into her company’s brand.

The Best Advice She’s Ever Received

As you can imagine, Miki Agrawal has met many people over the years from all walks of life and has undoubtedly received much advice along the way. As for the best advice she received, it was to choose her people wisely. In fact, the same person who told her this also told her that any person is the average of their five closest friends, which has always intrigued her.

About Miki Agrawal

As a prolific social entrepreneur, Miki Agrawal has always been a woman who was not afraid to speak her mind about some of the most taboo subjects. Challenging the status quo and changing cultures wherever she goes, Miki Agrawal has established herself as an entrepreneurial force to be reckoned with in the years ahead.

Social Enterprises

While many entrepreneurs are happy to have one successful venture, Miki Agrawal has had several that continue to showcase her unique skills. The founder of Tushy, Thinx, and Wild, she has also authored two best-selling books that have soared to number one, with her latest being “Disrupt-Her.” With these accomplishments already in her back pocket by age 42, it’s no surprise that Miki Agrawal has been named one of Inc. Magazine’s “Most Impressive Women Entrepreneurs” as well as a “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum. Passionate about everything she does, Agrawal is an entrepreneur who is always willing to share not only the secrets of her success but also discuss the setbacks she has encountered along the way and how they made her a stronger person.

Making the World a Better Place

While her entrepreneurial endeavors have brought her tremendous financial rewards, Miki Agrawal is a person who has always been determined to make the world a better place. To do so, Tushy helps find solutions to the global sanitation crisis and supports reforestation projects worldwide, by donating a percentage of each purchase to these important causes.

Educational Background

To help her become the successful entrepreneur she is today, Miki Agrawal obtained an education that has served her well in her business career. After attending Marianopolis College in the late ’90s to earn a B.S. in Business, she also attended Cornell University and graduated with a B.S. in Business and Communication in 2001. Fluent in French, Japanese, Spanish, Hindi, as well as English, Miki Agrawal continues to amass awards for her unique business acumen. Along with those that have been noted earlier, she has also been named one of the “100 Most Influential People in Brooklyn Culture” in 2017, one of the world’s “Most Creative People” by Fast Company in 2018, and many others along the way.

The Best is Yet to Come

Despite the many achievements she can already lay claim to, Miki Agrawal always insists the best is yet to come. Whether she is speaking to an audience of women at a conference or seminar who wish to follow in her footsteps, working with her creative team on a new and innovative marketing campaign, or sitting down to start work on yet another book, Miki Agrawal has been an example of how hard work and determination can mix with creativity and innovation. When the mix is just right, the result is an entrepreneur who changes the way corporate America does business.
