10 Things Covid-19 Taught Me!
- Human life is still fragile
Who would imagine that at the beginning of the 21st century we would still have to reconsider how weak we are against viruses and simple diseases. Viruses appeared on earth long before humans and they have had plenty of time to evolve and find a complex way to live on our bodies. They have an amazing and inexplicable way to adapt to any environment and they just proved it. - The planet needs a break
As soon as the news about the virus started to appear on the global news, China which was the first country to host patients of the particular disease stopped all the activities within the country. Transportation and factories ”froze.” The result was reflected in the pictures we took from the satellites a month after that. The atmosphere above China was totally clean. Perhaps it’s time to take a break as humanity from the constant production of goods which lead to air pollution and climate change. - Work can be remote
Contrary to what employers and employees thought all these years, work can be equally completed in distance. The performance of a particular project can be achieved with the proper guidance even when people are not at the same workplace. This saves time from transportation and allows an amount of flexibility for the employees. It is clearly a win-win situation that we wouldn’t be familiar with if it was not for the coronavirus restrictions. - Deep changes are always unexpected
It is true that Covid-19 turned upside down as soon as it made its appearance in our lives. Who would ever imagine air companies would have such serious damage and pharmaceutical industries would grow faster than ever before? Both society and every single individual had to reschedule and change their plans. Following the saying: ”When a man makes plans, God laughs” our lives were not ready for any of these. - A proper health system is important
Today more than ever was the existence of a strong health system vital. One of the greatest challenges we had to fight against the virus was that if the situation was out of control even if people were not seriously affected the problem would appear in the emergency rooms that would be full of patients suffering not only from coronavirus but from other diseases as well. Doctors became surprisingly important and hospitals are always valuable. - Being united is vital
Countries that applied strict rules on citizens and forced them to follow them for a certain period of time seem to have had better results regarding the spreading of the virus compared to others. Measures were had but people had to stay at home for only a small period. This proves that following the scientists’ directions may have great results as long as everyone follows the same path. - Research can be faster
Having a vaccine available to people so quickly was beyond our imagination at the beginning of this whole situation. However, a big part of the scientific world focused on working for the vaccine. The results were amazing. A lot of stuff was in jeopardy so discovering a vaccine was the only solution. In other words, when there is a will there’s a way. - Different countries apply different policies
It is remarkable how different countries dealt with the virus in completely different ways. If you talk with people from other countries you will realize that each country has its own values and policy. In the Chech Republic for example people considered that Covid-19 was very similar to flu since the government did not implement strict restrictions. At the same time, in Spain restrictions were bigger and this made people realize the severity of the situation. - The world is divided into classes
Ok, perhaps this is something we already knew but we have to admit not everyone has the same access to proper health care and this is even obvious on a national level. Very poor countries are not likely to deal with emergencies at the same pace as the developed countries. - Everything comes with a price
Last but not least, Covid-19 brought each one of us in front of the dilemma: Health or economic growth? Countries would have to choose which one they would prioritize as the most important. Whichever the decision was the society had to pay the price and it was not a cheap one…
