Detailed findings & methodology: In order to determine the rankings, researchers at the CEOWORLD magazine compiled, analyzed, and compared 80 countries across 11 key categories, including expat community; English is spoken; health care; the cost of living; affordability; tax-friendly; pleasant climate; ease of buying and owning property; visa and residency requirements; government stability; and ease of assimilation (how easy it is to make friends). Each category was then given a score out of 100. Each indicator is based on relevant research and reports that follow strict requirements to gather and analyze their data in order to build their rankings.
The study is based on a detailed global survey conducted in December 2020 and January 2021 by the CEOWORLD magazine in Partnership with the Global Business Policy Institute (GBPI) of 126,000 participants. After balancing all 11 key categories, the magazine ascribed a final overall score, also out of 100, to each country. The final choice of countries was judged editorially, as was their position on the list. All data is for the most recent period available.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample of 126,000 respondents is plus or minus 1.2 percentage points. In addition to sampling error, one should bear in mind that as in all survey research, there are possible sources of error—such as coverage, nonresponse, and measurement error——that could affect the results.
