6 Things To Know If You Are Heading To Israel for Studies

Anyone who intends to travel abroad for pursuing higher education should know that the very thought of it is challenging. When you decide to explore a foreign land for educational opportunities, you have to take care of not just academics but a whole new world of experiences. So, take some time to figure out whether you are prepared for the change and only then start with the application process.

Like every other country, Israel is a world of its own. A relatively young nation, Israel has gained international prominence in a small period of time. It is one of the highly developed nations in the world as a result of which students from all over the world apply to its various universities every year. If you are interested in pursuing qualitative education, you should consider Israel. However, if you do, then make sure you have taken a look at things you must consider for studying in Israel.

Here are 6 things about Israel you should know before heading there for studies.

  1. Language is not a problem
Hebrew is the primary language of Israel, but that does not mean you have to take lessons in Hebrew to attend universities here. English is a widely spoken language in the country. Whichever university you choose to attend, English will be a common mode of communication and instruction. Even locally, you should not find any problem communicating because most of the Israelis speak English. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt to learn Hebrew while you are there.
  2. Shabbat is the way
For most of us, Saturday is when the fun begins. Israelites have their own understanding of Saturdays, and anyone who is here in the country should embrace that understanding. Shabbat is an important day in Judaism and is essentially the day of rest. It is observed every seventh day of the week during which most businesses and services are shut down for a period of time. The duration starts from Friday evening and ends on Saturday evening at a designated time.
  3. The Quality of education is superb
If you did not know this, Israel is among the most highly educated countries in the world. Most of its universities rank among the world’s best and have been widely acknowledged for their excellent curricula. Some of its top tier universities include the Tel Aviv University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Ben Gurion University of the Negev, and the University of Haifa. Having an Israeli degree will be a huge advantage for you and for your career.

  4. Spend wisely
You should know that the cost of living in Israel can be quite high. Its capital city is among the most expensive cities in the Middle East. Public healthcare is universal and free, however, locals usually opt for private insurance to supplement. General expenses for a student can cost as much as USD 8,000 ever year excluding the amount that goes into tuition fees. However, one relief that international students get is the availability of discounts, especially in housing. In case you cannot avail of on-campus accommodation, then expect the expenses to rise. You can, however, contain the outgoing money by finding a flatmate to split your bills with.
  5. A Safe City
Safety is of paramount importance when we are thinking of moving abroad for whatever reason. So far as Israel is concerned, there is nothing much to worry about. It is a very safe city to study and live in.

Robust public security mechanisms are active throughout the country, and you will easily notice the command of security personnel in the country. It is not surprising that Israel takes domestic security very seriously considering its relations with its neighbors. In simpler words, you are safe here and can study peacefully.

  6. A beautiful culture
Israel has fascinated me for years, and it will fascinate even those with little interest in history. Israel may have been officially formed in 1948, but its relevance goes back way in the past. Everything leading up to Israel is part of world history you have most likely heard of. From Crusaders to World War II, major events from across the globe helped shape the country. When you come here to study, you will be attracted to its unique existence and will immerse yourself in its history and culture.
