  1. The University of São Paulo.
    The University of São Paulo (USP) is Brazil’s largest and most illustrious educational institution. The University is highly engaged in teaching and research and expanding its wings in all the areas of knowledge with a varied range of courses. The Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (IME-USP) is a teaching, research and extension unit featuring more than 180 faculty members and researchers. IME-USP is one of the largest institutions for higher education in Latin America, with more than 90,000 enrolled students.
  2. State University of Campinas (UNICAMP).
    Set up in 1962, the State University of Campinas is yet another estimable public research university in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Since the studies are sponsored by the state government, no tuition fees or administrative fees are charged for undergraduate and graduate programs just like any other Brazilian public university. No doubt on the fact that UNICAMP is consistently ranked among the top universities in Brazil. UNICAMP has its own annual National Entrance Examination held by its Vestibular Commission in two rounds, first of which mostly happens to be in November. The students must take a specific knowledge test even before the first phase if they are applying for a program requiring specific skills like music, architecture, dance, etc. The entrance exam for UNICAMP is highly competitive and hence, is comprehended as one of the most difficult ones in the country.
  3. The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
    UFRJ is yet another public university in Brazil in the state of Rio de Janeiro. UFRJ holds a specific place due to its excellence in the fields of teaching and research. The international agencies have recognized the university nationally as well as internationally, most of the credit of which goes to its immensely talented teachers and researchers. UFRJ is the largest federal university in the country. Brazil’s first official higher education institution, UFRJ, offers 179 undergraduate courses covering all areas of human knowledge and 345 post-graduation courses with 167 specialization and 178 master’s and doctor’s degrees. It has served as the basis of the country’s college system since its officialization in 1920.
  4. São Paulo State University (UNESP).
    Just like the aforementioned ones, São Paulo State University (UNESP) is also one of the well-renowned public universities of Brazil and one of the six public universities of the Brazilian state of São Paulo. This university is one of those few Latin American universities that are ceaselessly listed as one of the world’s best universities worldwide. The university is home to about 1,900 laboratories and 30 libraries that possess around 900,000 books. Additionally, it also features museums, gardens, parks, botanical gardens, and 5 experimental farms. Students are supposed to take a state-wide general exam, i.e., vestibular, for their admission. The vestibular is held on three days in two phases. The first phase consists of 90 questions in the selected disciplines and the second phase of exams in the remaining ones.
  5. The Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).
    UFRGS is a Brazilian federal university based in Porto Alegre that is known for featuring one of the largest numbers of scientific publications. UFRGS boasts of having over 31,000 undergraduate students, over 12,000 graduate students, and more than 2,600 faculty members.
    As it’s a Brazilian public federal institution, its students don’t pay tuition fees to enroll in courses offered by one of the highest-rated universities in Brazil. For the admission approval, students are supposed to take vestibular that takes place in January and classes begin in March.
