International students in the UK were up 5.9% from the academic year 2017-18 with 485,000 students total, and foreign students now make up 20.38% of all higher education students (2.38 million) in UK universities.

Here are the 10 countries that send the most students to UK universities in 2018/19.

1. China (120,385, +13% since 17/18)
   The most populous country in the world with about 1.4 billion people, 120,385 Chinese students went to college in the United Kingdom.

   

2. India (26,685, +35% since 17/18)
   India is the second-largest country by population in the world with about 1.3 billion — 26,685 of its students went to a British college.

   

3. United States (20,120, +7% since 17/18)
   With a population of about 327 million, the United States sent 20,120 of its students to the UK for college.

   

4. Hong Kong (16,135, -1% since 17/18)
   Hong Kong has a population of close to 7.4 million and 16,135 of its people went to college in the UK.

   

5. Malaysia (13,835, -8% since 17/18)
   India’s near- neighbor across the Andaman Sea Malaysia has a population of about 31 million, and 13,835 of them attended a UK college.

   

6. Italy (13,965, level with 17/18)
   With a population of about 60 million, Italy sent 13,965 of its students to the UK for the college academic year 2018-19.
