This is the 21st century. It is the time of the Internet, and I bet, you already deeply invested in it. Ever since the Internet emerged and started occupying a nearly permanent place in our lives, we have been seeing the development of all kinds of platforms catering to various areas. One such area is education.

Today, there are innumerable educational platforms which contribute immensely to the dissemination of educational content to people from all over the world. Many of these platforms cater to the needs of students of higher education and have even started assuming relevance in the world educational systems.

There are too many of these platforms to choose from, but there are certainly a few of them which enjoy international repute. Their user base runs in millions and their content deals with wide-ranging areas in higher education. In fact, there are many platforms which have been acknowledged by prominent higher education institutions such as Harvard.

    There is a high chance that you already know about Udemy—and if not, I am going to brief you about it. One of the biggest names in the field of online education providers is that of Udemy. It is known for its diverse range of courses, which are curated and taught by experts from all over the world. Its kitty has more than 50,000 courses of all kinds which are divided into broad categories, namely paid and free. In addition to a website, Udemy has its own app which can be downloaded for free. In case you are wondering what the price range of its courses is, then you should know that it is quite competitive and varies from one course to another. Moreover, the platform runs eye-catching discounts from time to time.

    Another big name on the list, Coursera offers a customized range of courses. These courses may or may not be free, depending on their kind. You will find almost everything you can study about, from computer science to music.
    One of the many things which help Coursera remain strong in the competition is the fact that it has partnered with many reputed universities in the United States and beyond. Experts from these universities curate and teach in a student-friendly environment.
    There is a feature called “specializations” which essentially is an organized program involving step-by-step learning from an associated university and grant of an official certificate from the said university in the event of successful completion. Coursera offers fertificate from some of the most established educational institutions in the world: University of Illinois, HEC Paris, University of Colorado Boulder, University of London and the University of Pennsylvania.

    It has been more than a decade since Khan Academy was started, and it has established itself as one of the most qualitative educational online platforms in the world.
    Khan Academy is a non-profit organization and offers free educational services to anyone from any part of the world. It has developed a student-friendly study environment which is marked by interactive video lectures, practice assignments, small-duration lectures, and others.
    Unlike many other platforms, Khan Academy rests its focus on conventional subjects such as science and computers.

    Perhaps, one of the biggest aggregations of experts from reputed universities is at edX. edX is a non-profit organization which was established by the combined efforts of two most established educational institutions in the world, Massachusetts  Institute of Technology (MIT) , Harvard University, UC Berkeley, University of Texas System, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of British Columbia.
    Ever since its establishment, it has included diverse kinds of courses from reputed institutes across the globe such as Peking University and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Here, you will find courses on all kinds such as language-learning, Arts, Law, Business, international politics, and engineering.
    All you need to do is: Enroll in any of the courses, complete it, and get an official certificate upon payment of a fee for the same.

    Alison is one of those few online educational platforms which offer courses without charging a single penny. It has more than 10 million students enrolled in its numerous courses, which are as qualitative as they sound. Here, you can find courses on languages, computer science, business among many others.

You need to take tests for getting a certificate. The minimum passing requirement for securing a certificate is scoring a minimum 80 percent. Once you pass them, you can show off to the world how cool you are!
