The College of Letters & Science at the University of California, Berkeley has been ranked No. 1 on the list of 50 best universities to study arts and humanities in the world, according to a new study out by the CEOWORLD magazine, School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Cambridge placed second on the list, followed by Harvard University at No. 3.

The 2017 rankings placed School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University in 4th ahead of the University of Oxford into 5th; while Princeton ranked 6th, and Humanities Division at UCLA 7th.

Overall, among the top 10 universities, the 8th, 9th, and 10th positions are held by Yale, ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), and Columbia University. Details on our ranking methodology are available at the end of the article.

London School of Economics and Political Science took the No. 11 spot in 2017, followed by the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Tokyo (No.12) and the University of Sydney (No.13). Meanwhile, School of Humanities HKU ranked No. 14 in the CEOWORLD magazine’s ranking of the best universities for an Arts And Humanities degree in the world.

New York University came in 15th place, followed by MIT School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (SHASS) (16th), Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Melbourne (17th), UCL Faculty of Arts & Humanities (18th), and the University of Chicago, ranked 19th. Out of 100 best universities for an Arts And Humanities degree in the world, the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto ranked No. 20th.

Find detailed information on the CEOWORLD magazine global university rankings — The best universities to study arts and humanities in the world, 2017 by the CEOWORLD magazine is based on six major indicators of quality and reputation. Overall Score (100%) is the sum of:

1. Global reputation and influence (30%)
2. Recruiter feedback (20%)
3. Job placement rate (10%)
4. Admission eligibility (10%)
5. Specialization (10%)
6. Academic reputation (20%)

Data for these indicators was collected from publicly available sources, university’s website, our research, and survey. It measures the quality of education, job placements of students, and the recruiters feedback, without relying on university data submissions. Students, industry professionals, and recruiters were asked to rate universities on a scale of 1 “marginal” to 100 “outstanding” or “don’t know.”

However, this is by no means a comprehensive list, while the universities above are the “CEOWORLD magazine’s Best universities to study arts and humanities in the world, 2017,” there may be many other universities that offer excellent programs.

* This rankings should not be viewed as the most important aspect when choosing a university, and are simply one element to consider.

* The top-ranked university receives 100 points.

*The overall score are numerical scores given to the universities based on students, industry professionals, and recruiter feedback — measuring the quality of the university. Overall scores are out of 100.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample of 85,000 respondents is plus or minus 1.4 percentage points. In addition to sampling error, one should bear in mind that as in all survey research, there are possible sources of error—such as coverage, nonresponse and measurement error——that could affect the results.
