The 101 Best Universities In The World Rankings 2014/15
The prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retained top spot as the world’s best university for the third year in a row.
Imperial College London was ranked second-equal with Cambridge University. Behind these in 4th place is Harvard University, in the 2014/15 rankings compiled by education research firm QS.
Probably the most important thing to notice, four of the world’s top 10 universities were British, and the remaining 6 were all American, according to an annual survey of the world’s leading higher education establishments.
And two more British universities share joint 5th place, University College London (UCL) and Oxford.
Four US universities – Stanford University, California Institute of Technology Caltech), Princeton and Yale – accounted for the other top ten places.

Universities from 31 countries made up the top 200 ranking, which was dominated by the US with 51 institutions. The UK was second with 29, followed by Germany (13), the Netherlands (11), Canada (10), Japan (10) and Australia (8).
The QS ranking of world universities examines all 4 core elements of a university; 1) research, 2) teaching, 3) employability and 4) internationalisation.
6 indicators: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), and faculty student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international students (5%), and international faculty (5%).
It also measures the university’s reputation among its academic peers and also industry partners.
