From Motel Roots to Mortgage Mastery: The Story of Aussy Manuhu

Some people grow up dreaming of the life they want. Others build it from scratch. Aussy Manuhu, a mortgage industry expert based in San Francisco, CA, is one of those people who built it.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Aussy comes from a large, close-knit Indonesian family. Her parents immigrated to the U.S. in 1976. They were the first among their siblings to make the leap, and they started their American journey by purchasing the Tropico Motel in Glendale, California.
“We lived in that motel for most of my childhood,” Aussy says. “That was our home and my parents business.”
It was more than just a place to stay. It was where Aussy learned what hard work really looks like. Her parents worked non-stop, managing the motel while also raising a family. Her mother, looking for a way out of the daily grind, got into real estate.
“I remember listening to her real estate books on tape every morning while she drove me to school,” Aussy recalls. “She was learning and building at the same time.”
That influence would eventually shape Aussy’s own path. But first, there was school. Aussy’s parents worked hard to send her and her brother to private schools. She attended Flintridge Preparatory School, a top-ranked private high school in California, and later studied Environmental Analysis and Design at UC Irvine.
“I didn’t realize how much they sacrificed for us until I got older,” she says. “Now I’m just grateful.”
After college, Aussy started working in sales. She was successful early on, ranking at the top in companies like SKA Research, PageNet, and Nordstrom. She realized she had a natural gift for connecting with people and closing deals.
“Sales just made sense to me,” she explains. “It was less about pushing a product and more about understanding people.”
Eventually, she followed in her mother’s footsteps and stepped into the mortgage world. Her first role was at Ameriquest Mortgage. Over the years, she worked with several lenders and climbed the ranks.
At WMC Mortgage, she became the first Account Executive hired to build out the Bay Area territory. It wasn’t easy. It took long hours, hard conversations, and relentless determination.
“I worked my living ass off,” she says bluntly. “I wasn’t handed anything. I earned every inch.”
That mindset carried her forward. She joined Bay Equity and later Rocket Mortgage, where she holds the title of Founder’s Club Market Development and Rock Partner. For more than
29+ years, she’s served the broker community, ranking consistently among the top producers.
But for Aussy, success isn’t just about numbers. It’s about quality, relationships, and always showing up at your best.
“I’m a deal maker,” she says. “But I never cut corners. My clients get my full attention, every time.”
Her approach is direct, no-nonsense, and grounded in real life. She believes in accountability and learning from setbacks.
“If something goes wrong, I take the blame,” she says. “I own it, learn from it, and explain to my clients how I’ll fix it moving forward.”
Beyond work, Aussy is passionate about empowering women. She believes women should never rely on someone else for financial stability.
“Wealth is freedom,” she says. “No woman should have to stay in a job or relationship because she can’t afford to leave.”
She practices what she preaches. Her life is built on financial independence, self-discipline, and continuous growth. She sets short-term and long-term goals, resets each day, and always invests in her personal development.
“I’ve learned it’s all mind over matter,” she says. “If your mindset is strong, you can do anything.”
Outside of work, Aussy enjoys snowboarding, cooking, golfing, and working out. She’s energetic and spontaneous, always up for something new.
“I like being active,” she says. “I also love to travel, dance, and just enjoy life. Balance matters.”
Looking back, Aussy’s story isn’t about luck or shortcuts. It’s about focus, grit, and honoring the example her parents set.
“My mom and dad showed me what it means to hustle,” she says. “My dad showed me what it means to stay steady. I carry both of those lessons every day.”
Today, Aussy continues to lead in her industry. But she also wants others to know they can build a strong life too—if they’re willing to work for it.
“There’s no secret formula,” she says. “Just show up every day, do your best, and never settle for less.”
That’s the kind of real advice that doesn’t just apply to mortgages. It applies to life. And it’s why Aussy Manuhu’s story is worth paying attention to.
