The Mind Behind the Numbers: A Spotlight on Dr. Abdalla Mansur

Dr. Abdalla Mansur

Dr. Abdalla Mansur has spent his life studying numbers, patterns, and the mysteries of mathematical equations. But behind the calculations and research papers is a man dedicated to learning, teaching, and making sense of the world through logic. Based in Kingston, Ontario Mansur’s journey has taken him across continents, from Libya to Canada, the USA, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. His work in mathematics and education has shaped the lives of students and scholars alike.

A Life Built on Learning

Mansur grew up in Libya but moved to Canada over two decades ago. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Queen’s University, where he focused on complex systems and the study of how things move and interact. His research explores dynamical systems and differential equations, specifically the movement of bodies in space.

“I’ve always been fascinated by how things work,” Mansur says. “Mathematics is about understanding patterns, whether in nature, economics, or even human behavior.”

Over the years, he has taught in many institutions, including Laurentian University, St. Lawrence College, and the Royal Military College of Canada, University of Toledo, Ohio, USA.  He also spent time teaching in the UAE, where he worked at Al Ain University and the Higher Colleges of Technology from 2016 to 2020. Recently, he served as an assistant professor at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University in Saudi Arabia, teaching an advanced statistics course called Sampling Theory (STAT512).

Currently, he is an assistant professor at the Libyan Center for Engineering Research and Information Technology. Teaching remains one of his biggest passions.

The Power of Writing and Teaching

For Mansur, teaching isn’t just about giving lectures. It’s about making abstract ideas clear and practical. He learned this the hard way early in his career when he struggled to connect with students.

“My first approach was too rigid,” he admits. “I was too focused on theory without enough real-world examples. Over time, I realized that students need to see how mathematics applies to their daily lives.”

That realization changed how he approached teaching. He started incorporating real-life scenarios, interactive problem-solving, and technology into his lessons. His ability to simplify complex mathematical theories made him a favorite among students.

But teaching is just one part of his academic journey. Writing is another.

“I believe writing is one of the most powerful tools for thinking,” he says. “It forces you to structure your thoughts and refine your arguments.”

He uses LaTeX, a specialized software for writing academic papers, to ensure precision in his work. Whether writing research papers, journal entries, or lecture notes, he believes putting ideas on paper is essential for deep understanding.

Research and the Future of Mathematics

Mansur’s research focuses on N-body problems, which involve studying how multiple objects move under gravitational forces. It’s a field of study that has deep connections to physics, astronomy, and engineering. He also investigates the stability of these systems, which can have implications in everything from spacecraft navigation to predicting planetary motion.

Recently, he has been interested in how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming mathematical research. AI can now analyze large datasets, assist in generating proofs, and help researchers model complex systems faster than ever before.

“Mathematics has always been about logic and patterns,” he says. “But AI is taking it to a whole new level. We are now seeing machines assist with proofs and computations that used to take years.”

Mansur believes AI will continue to change the way researchers approach problem-solving. However, he also warns against over-reliance on technology.

“AI is a tool, not a replacement for critical thinking,” he explains. “It’s great for processing data, but true mathematical insight still comes from human creativity.”

The Importance of Lifelong Learning

Throughout his career, Mansur has attended conferences and workshops worldwide. In May 2024, he conducted a LaTeX workshop for researchers at the Libyan Center for Engineering Research and Information Technology.

He also participated in several international conferences, including:

  • The 14th AIMS Conference on Dynamical Systems, Differential Equations, and Applications (NYU Abu Dhabi, UAE, 2024)
  • The 11th International Conference on Mathematics and Computing (India, 2025)
  • Mathematical Model of Cholesterol Removal by Probiotics (Detroit, 2020)

His advice for young academics is simple: never stop learning.

“The world is changing fast,” he says. “If you stop learning, you stop growing.”

A Humble Approach to Success

Despite his many achievements, Mansur remains humble. He doesn’t see himself as a genius or an outlier. Instead, he believes that persistence and curiosity are what truly drive success.

“People often think success is about being naturally gifted,” he says. “But I believe it’s more about consistency. Small, steady progress leads to big results over time.”

He applies this mindset in both his research and his daily life. Whether solving complex equations or taking a simple walk to clear his thoughts, he sees learning as a lifelong journey rather than a destination.

Final Thoughts

Mansur’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and intellectual curiosity. From Libya to Canada to the UAE and beyond, his work continues to inspire students and researchers worldwide. Whether through teaching, research, or writing, he remains committed to advancing the field of mathematics and sharing knowledge with others.

As he puts it, “Mathematics is everywhere. The more we understand it, the better we understand the world.”
