Deliveroo Faces Leadership Uncertainty Amid CEO Exit Speculation

Shares of Deliveroo (OTC: DROOF) (LSE: ROO) declined by 1.5% following unconfirmed reports suggesting that the company’s founder and CEO, Will Shu, might be preparing to step down. Amid growing speculation, sources indicated that Deliveroo was exploring potential replacements, raising concerns about the company’s future direction.

Shu’s potential departure has been perceived as a setback for the food delivery company, which has been widely recognized for its leadership and innovation under his guidance. However, in response to media speculation, a Deliveroo spokesperson dismissed the rumors, asserting that there were no plans for Shu to resign. The spokesperson further emphasized that Shu remained fully committed to Deliveroo’s long-term growth and continued focus on serving consumers, merchants, and riders.

Established as a challenger brand in the competitive food delivery space, Deliveroo has played a central role in industry discussions, from refining delivery models to expanding into non-food retail. Shu’s leadership has earned strong support from the investment community, and his exit could represent a pivotal change for the company.

Regarding succession, analysts at Jefferies noted that Deliveroo had a robust pool of internal candidates, including executives with experience at Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN). Carlo Mocci, who was promoted to Chief Business Officer in November 2024, was identified as the leading internal candidate for the CEO position. Additionally, COO Eric French and CFO Scilla Grimble were cited as potential successors.

Jefferies analysts also commented on the broader implications of Shu’s departure, stating that Deliveroo was considered a valuable strategic asset and a potential acquisition target in any sector consolidation. They added that Shu stepping down could diminish Deliveroo’s appeal to prospective buyers.
