Eurofighter Welcomes New CEO as Leadership Rotates Amid Continued Success
Jorge Tamarit Degenhardt has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH, the organization behind the Eurofighter Typhoon program. Selected by the consortium’s shareholders, he steps into the role as part of the company’s Board of Management.
A dual citizen of Spain and Germany, Jorge brings over 20 years of experience from Airbus Defence & Space, where he advanced through various global executive positions. His expertise in the Eurofighter program is well-established, having recently served as Spain’s Programme Head, overseeing all Airbus contributions to the consortium, including Spain’s Tranche 1 upgrade.
Beyond the Eurofighter, Jorge managed the Airbus C295 India Programme, where he led the largest-ever order for the aircraft and established India’s first privately managed aerospace and defense production system.
Richard Hamilton, Chair of the Eurofighter Supervisory Board, expressed the board’s enthusiasm for Jorge’s appointment. He highlighted Jorge’s extensive leadership experience in both the defense industry and the Eurofighter program, noting its value as the organization prepares for further orders and deliveries of Typhoon aircraft in the coming years.
In his first remarks after taking on the role, Jorge shared his pride in leading a program he described as one of the world’s premier weapons systems. He emphasized his commitment to working with stakeholders to maintain Eurofighter’s success in securing orders while delivering advanced capabilities for current and future combat needs.
Jorge succeeds Italy’s Giancarlo Mezzanatto, who led Eurofighter GmbH during a period of unexpected sales success. Known for his personable approach and transparency with the aviation media, Mezzanatto left a notable legacy. Richard Hamilton extended gratitude to the outgoing CEO, acknowledging his dedication and wishing him well as he returns to Leonardo.
This leadership change follows Eurofighter’s established three-year rotation policy among partner companies, ensuring a continuous infusion of diverse perspectives into the program’s strategic direction.
