Saving Money Tops Americans’ New Year’s Resolutions for 2025, According to Statista

A recent survey conducted by Statista among 1,050 Americans revealed that saving money is the most common New Year’s resolution for 2025. Over 20% of U.S. adults listed saving more as their top goal for the year. Other popular resolutions included eating healthier (19%), exercising more (17%), losing weight (15%), and spending more time with family and friends (14%).

A similar study by research and analytics firm YouGov, which surveyed over 1,100 Americans, confirmed these findings. Saving money was again the leading resolution, selected by 26% of respondents. Physical health goals came in second, with 22% of respondents choosing resolutions like exercising or eating better, while 13% prioritized paying down debts.

A separate survey conducted by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), shared with Entrepreneur, examined the emotions driving these resolutions. According to the APA’s poll of 2,200 adults conducted in early December, financial anxiety is the leading concern for Americans heading into the new year. Nearly 58% of respondents reported feeling very or somewhat anxious about their personal finances, compared to 45% who expressed similar worries about their physical health.

Marketa M. Wills, M.D., M.B.A., CEO and medical director of the APA, commented that while the new year brings opportunities, it also revives concerns about critical aspects of life, such as finances and health.

The APA survey further noted an increase in the number of Americans making financial resolutions, with 38% of respondents committing to improving their personal finances in 2025, a 4% rise from the previous year. Social and relationship goals, along with diet-related resolutions, were also cited, each selected by 25% of respondents.

These surveys highlight how financial well-being has taken center stage in the minds of Americans as they prepare for the year ahead, reflecting broader concerns about economic challenges and personal stability.
