Vietnam and Ericsson Strengthen Collaboration on Digital Transformation
On November 25, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted Borje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson, in Hanoi during Ekholm’s working visit to Vietnam. The meeting underscored the strengthening ties between Vietnam and Sweden, particularly in politics, diplomacy, development assistance, and trade.
Chinh highlighted the potential of Ericsson in capital, technology, and advanced management. He expressed optimism that Ekholm’s visit would provide comprehensive insights to inform the company’s future investment and business strategies in Vietnam.
Ekholm emphasized Ericsson’s leadership in 5G deployment and advanced wireless connectivity worldwide. Operating in Vietnam since 1993, the company has been a critical partner to Vietnamese telecom operators and is actively supporting the country’s development of 5G networks. Ekholm stated that Ericsson is eager to contribute to Vietnam’s national digital transformation efforts, including research and the development of new technologies and products.
Chinh praised Ericsson’s plans to expand its operations in Vietnam, particularly in digital infrastructure development, digital transformation, and e-government initiatives. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s prioritization of digital transformation as a strategic and essential growth driver. He encouraged Ericsson to enhance cooperation with Vietnam, focusing on building R&D facilities, data centers, and accelerating technology transfer in areas such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, IoT, and next-generation networks like 5G and 6G.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of collaboration in human resource training, policy consultation, and supporting Vietnamese companies in integrating into global supply chains. He noted Vietnam’s aspirations to innovate and utilize outer space, underground space, and marine resources, inviting Ericsson to engage in long-term strategic cooperation with the country.
To advance digital transformation, Chinh highlighted Vietnam’s implementation of breakthrough policies, significant investments in digital infrastructure, and efforts to modernize legal frameworks. He emphasized the government’s focus on digital data development and workforce training in the digital industry.
Ekholm affirmed Ericsson’s commitment to Vietnam, noting the country’s strategic importance to the company. He expressed confidence in Vietnam’s trajectory as a leader in the digital economy and outlined plans for establishing an R&D center to develop innovative solutions and export opportunities, leveraging Vietnam’s skilled workforce and advancing the digital economy.
