Christian Dior Brings Miu Miu CEO, Benedetta Petruzzo, to Lead as Managing Director
The executive reshuffling season is already in full swing as Christian Dior Couture has appointed Benedetta Petruzzo, currently CEO of Miu Miu, as its new managing director. Petruzzo is set to assume her role on October 15, reporting directly to Delphine Arnault, Dior’s chairman and CEO.
Petruzzo will be taking over from Charles Delapalme, who has been with Dior since 2018 and stepped into the managing director role in February 2023. Following a transition period, Delapalme is expected to move into new significant responsibilities within the LVMH Group, with details to be announced later. The Prada Group has yet to name Petruzzo’s successor at Miu Miu.
Not yet 40, Petruzzo joined Miu Miu in 2020 as general manager and was promoted to CEO in March 2023. Under her leadership, Miu Miu has thrived despite a challenging market, with sales surging by 93% year-on-year in the first half of 2024, setting the brand on track to reach around $1.11 billion in annual sales for the full year. Prior to her tenure at Miu Miu, Petruzzo spent five years at Kering Eyewear, most recently as executive VP of Kering Eyewear USA.
In her new position at Dior, Petruzzo will be joining a major player in the luxury sector. Christian Dior Couture achieved an estimated $10.5 billion in sales in 2023, according to HSBC, making it the second-largest brand in the LVMH portfolio after Louis Vuitton. However, Dior is not immune to the broader slowdown affecting the luxury fashion industry, with LVMH’s fashion and leather goods division experiencing only 1% growth in the second quarter of 2024.
Arnault expressed confidence in Petruzzo’s abilities, stating that her talent and leadership would be instrumental in furthering Dior’s growth and expanding its global influence.
Arnault also emphasized that Petruzzo’s expertise in the luxury market would be crucial in maintaining Dior’s desirability and success. She added that, together with the talented team at Dior, they would continue to build the future and strengthen the organization’s position.
