Inside Billion-Dollar Lifestyle of 3rd Richest Man in the US: Mark Zuckerberg’s Cars, Philanthropy and More

Mark Zuckerberg, the tech titan behind Meta, ranks among the world’s wealthiest, boasting a net worth of approximately $183 billion. His fortune fuels a variety of passions, from real estate investments in Hawaii to charitable endeavors with his wife, Priscilla Chan.

While Zuckerberg is known for his relatively modest taste in cars, driving vehicles like an Acura TSX and a Honda Fit, he does indulge in more extravagant purchases. For instance, he bought a Volkswagen Golf GTI after amassing his wealth, a car with a modest starting price of just over $30,000. But he’s also splurged on a high-end sports car—a Pagani Huayra, which comes with a price tag exceeding $1 million. In a rare glimpse of his collection, Zuckerberg shared a photo of two refurbished vintage Ford Broncos, which he captioned “his and hers,” although their cost remains undisclosed.

Zuckerberg’s real estate portfolio is equally impressive. In 2011, he purchased a 5,000-square-foot home in Palo Alto for $7 million and later bought four adjacent properties for an additional $43 million to ensure privacy. He also acquired a $10 million residence in San Francisco, which he sold in 2022 for $31 million, marking the city’s largest residential deal at the time.

In 2014, Zuckerberg expanded his real estate ventures to Hawaii, purchasing two sprawling properties on Kaua’i for $100 million. However, his actions sparked controversy among locals, particularly after he built a 6-foot wall around his land and filed lawsuits against Hawaiian families with ownership claims. Although he later dropped the suits, the backlash was significant, with some accusing him of “neocolonialism.” Despite the criticism, Zuckerberg has continued to expand his Hawaiian estate, buying nearly 600 additional acres in 2021 for $53 million and another 110 acres in 2022 for $17 million. His Kaua’i compound reportedly includes a 5,000-square-foot underground bunker, complete with a blast-resistant door and an escape hatch.

Beyond his interest in real estate, Zuckerberg enjoys outdoor activities like riding a $12,000 hydrofoil and practicing archery on his Hawaiian property. He’s also invested in mixed martial arts (MMA) and jiu-jitsu, even installing an octagon cage in his backyard for training.

In addition to his physical pursuits, Zuckerberg has made significant financial commitments to philanthropy. He and Chan are members of the Giving Pledge, promising to donate the majority of their wealth to charitable causes. As part of this commitment, Zuckerberg has pledged to sell 99% of his Facebook shares over his lifetime. In September 2017, he announced plans to sell up to 75 million shares to fund the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), a philanthropic organization founded in 2015. CZI focuses on tackling global challenges, such as eradicating diseases, improving education, and addressing local community needs. To date, CZI has awarded over $6.91 billion in grants, including substantial contributions to criminal justice reform, affordable housing, and COVID-19 relief efforts.

One of the couple’s most ambitious goals is to cure the world’s diseases by the end of the century. To achieve this, they launched Biohub, a nonprofit dedicated to groundbreaking research in genomics, infectious diseases, and advanced medical devices.

In a lighter display of his wealth, Zuckerberg recently commissioned a 7-foot-tall turquoise statue of Chan inspired by ancient Roman traditions. He shared the sculpture on Instagram, humorously noting that he’s “bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife.”
