Beyond Chatbots: How this AI Professional Is Making a Difference Amidst the Rush for Generative AI
Artificial intelligence has a transformative effect on countless sectors worldwide, with applications ranging from modernizing research and development to influencing how we conduct business and create art.
But along with these opportunities come difficult challenges to overcome. Specifically, there’s a lack of established practices for AI development, and as a burgeoning field, the qualified personnel it requires for successful implementation often just isn’t available.
Many professionals are working tirelessly to address these challenges, with experts like Anjanava Biswas at the heart of the field’s evolution. In his work as an AI and security expert, he’s ensured that organizations worldwide can capitalize on this emerging technology without compromising on security.
Learn more about how Anjanava is changing the field of AI and improving the technology for innovators worldwide.
Reshaping AI Industry Standards
Generative AI holds great promise to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges. But because it’s still in its infancy, this tech also comes with its own challenges, specifically regarding data privacy and security, inaccurate information, and even what the industry refers to as hallucinations.
To combat these concerns, Anjanava’s work in generative AI trust and safety is a massive step forward in implementing safe and effective AI systems. Over a two-decade-long career, he’s worked for technology giants like IBM and Oracle before taking his current position as Senior AI Specialist Solutions Architect at AWS, where he oversees research and development in generative AI, computer vision, and natural language processing, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the world of artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
His work has been used in commercial products such as Amazon Comprehend (an NLP software) and Guardrails for Amazon Bedrock (a generative AI platform). Anjanava has also contributed to OWASP, a community-driven LLM safety framework that’s standardizing how the industry can tackle vulnerabilities in large language models.
Anjanava’s work ultimately landed him a seat at the table at the AI Advisory Board of the Security Industry Association — a leading trade organization that’s dedicated to advancing the security industry. Led by experts like Anjanava, the Association has also provided security guidance to US federal agencies and published 2024 security megatrends for the AI industry.
His work on secure generative AI and its implementation via cloud AI services earned him the 2024 Stevie Awards for Technology Excellence. We congratulate all of the winners in the inaugural edition of the Stevie Awards for Technology Excellence for their outstanding performance, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements on September 16,” said Stevies president Maggie Miller.
Anjanava’s Impact on the Industry and Academia
While Anjanava is proud of his successful career and his notable awards, he’s also passionate about contributing to the broader tech community and furthering research into this blossoming field.
To this end, he works in an advisory role for the IEEE Industry Engagement Committee (IEC). Here, Anjanava works to establish AI standards, tools, and educational programs that empower more than 100,000 of its 450,000 members across the globe for the IEEE’s Young Professionals program.
Anjanava is also passionate about furthering the education of the next generation of AI professionals, which is apparent in his development of AI training courses that are delivered via the AWS Skillbuilder platform and the AWS Machine Learning University (MLU) platform. His courses have trained more than 1 million professionals across the globe, earning him the honor of being awarded the International Achievers Award from the Indian Achievers’ Forum earlier this year.
Solving Real-World Problems with Artificial Intelligence
Many professionals tend to focus on the mathematical and theoretical facets of AI, which means they aren’t always concerned by the business impact of their work. But Anjanava’s work goes beyond just the theoretical constructs of AI technology; it also helps companies of various sizes solve real-world problems.
For example, Canadian startup InsightMatics Inc. used Anjanava’s work to build its proprietary large-scale document processing system. Leveraging his open-source work and research papers such as “Robustness of Structured Data Extraction from In-Plane Rotated Documents Using Multi-Modal Large Language Models (LLM),” the startup was able to build its infrastructure rapidly and go to market much sooner than expected. John Wingate, chief scientist and founding member of InsightMatics Inc., notes that thanks to the foundations of Anjanava’s work, the brand’s product now serves multiple enterprise customers and has helped the startup raise $2.2 million in seed funding.
In recognition of his numerous contributions to generative AI, Anjanava also recently received the 2024 Globee Technology Awards and 2024 Globee Golden Bridge Awards. His aforementioned LLM research paper and his open-source project on generative AI — which has been downloaded tens of thousands of times — specifically made him stand out among a large pool of entrants and caught the attention of leading academic institutions. Notably, the Institute for Intelligent Computing at Shandong University has incorporated Anjanava’s findings into their Modelscope Project, a cutting-edge initiative aimed at co-development and advancements of multi-modal language models.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Biswas and applaud him for his innovations, achievements, and his far reaching impacts,” said Thomas Brandt, spokesperson of IAA Global. “As a platform for professionals, entrepreneurs, and businesses, we take pride in showcasing his remarkable achievements and acknowledging his excellence in the world of artificial intelligence and business.”
Leaving an Indelible Mark on the World of AI
Anjanava Biswas’s ascension to the top of the AI and machine learning industry is a result of his vision, desire, and hard work. However, he just wants to be known as a dedicated professional who makes artificial intelligence more practical in the real world, an educator passionate about nurturing and mentoring tomorrow’s industry leaders, and a safety-minded innovator who helps establish AI standards for its secure and ethical use.
