Paolo Pompei to Take Helm as President and CEO of Nokian Tyres
Nokian Tyres plc has announced the appointment of Paolo Pompei as its new President and CEO, effective January 1, 2025, at the latest. Until Pompei assumes his new role, Jukka Moisio will continue to lead the company.
Born in 1971 and an Italian citizen, Pompei brings extensive experience in the tire industry. He most recently served as President of Yokohama TWS, previously known as Trelleborg Wheel Systems, since 2017. His career also includes several leadership roles within the Trelleborg Group, such as President of the Business Unit Agricultural Tires and earlier positions at Pirelli. Additionally, Pompei is a Board Member of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA). He holds a degree in Economics and a Master’s in International Trade and has pursued further studies in business administration and management.
Jukka Hienonen, Chair of Nokian Tyres’ Board of Directors, expressed enthusiasm for Pompei’s upcoming leadership, citing his robust international experience and strong track record in the tire industry. Hienonen highlighted Pompei’s deep understanding of key markets in Central Europe and North America, which are pivotal for Nokian Tyres’ growth. He believes Pompei possesses the necessary experience and skills to drive the company towards its goal of achieving around $2,18 billion in net sales.
Pompei conveyed his honor at being chosen to lead Nokian Tyres, recognizing the company’s exciting transformation phase aimed at significant growth in Central Europe and North America. He emphasized the company’s leadership in sustainability, exemplified by the construction of the world’s first zero CO2 emission tire factory in Romania. Pompei expressed his eagerness to work with the Nokian Tyres team to create future success with both existing and new customers.
Jukka Moisio, who has been President and CEO of Nokian Tyres since 2020, announced his intention to retire in 2024. Hienonen commended Moisio for his leadership during challenging times. He thanked Moisio for his contributions and excellent cooperation, noting that there are still several months left to work together before Moisio’s departure.
