Bitfarms Appoints New CEO as It Broadens Horizons

Bitfarms has announced the appointment of Ben Gagnon as its new Chief Executive Officer, signaling a strategic shift aimed at diversifying its operations beyond Bitcoin mining.

Previously serving as Chief Mining Officer, Gagnon has been instrumental in Bitfarms’ ascent within the Bitcoin mining sector. With his comprehensive experience, he is expected to guide the company toward new avenues of growth.

Under Gagnon’s leadership, Bitfarms intends to venture into areas such as energy generation, heat recycling, energy trading, and high-performance computing for artificial intelligence. His tenure as Chief Mining Officer was marked by significant contributions to the company’s growth strategy.

Starting his career at Bitfarms in 2019 as Director of Business Development, Gagnon quickly climbed the ranks, holding positions such as Director of Mining Operations and Chief Mining Officer. His expertise encompasses various facets of mining strategy, operations, and technology integration.

Before joining Bitfarms, Gagnon founded and managed two Bitcoin mining companies and held executive roles within the industry. He earned an MSc. in Internet Computing from Hong Kong University and a BSc. in Economic Consulting and International Business from Indiana University.

Gagnon has expressed optimism about his new role, emphasizing the transformative changes Bitfarms has undergone in the past year. He highlighted the strategic importance of preparing for the 2028 Bitcoin halving event and exploring high-performance computing and artificial intelligence opportunities as key areas of focus for the future.

Since its inception in 2017, Bitfarms has expanded to operate 12 Bitcoin data centers across four countries, with two additional centers in development. The company is recognized for its commitment to sustainability, primarily utilizing hydroelectric power and long-term power contracts for its operations.
