Tolu Minerals Initiates Comprehensive Geophysical Survey in Papua New Guinea
Tolu Minerals Ltd (ASX) has launched an airborne Magneto Telluric (MT) survey across its gold, silver, and base metal projects in Papua New Guinea, starting with the Tolukuma Mining Lease. In an interview with Jonathan Jackson at Proactive, Managing Director and CEO Iain Macpherson elaborated on the initiative.
Macpherson expressed his enthusiasm for the survey’s initiation, highlighting its crucial role in identifying new gold and copper targets and informing the company’s evolving exploration strategy. Preliminary data updates will be provided as the survey progresses.
Expert Geophysics Limited (EGL) is conducting the survey, which aims to provide detailed electrical resistivity imaging to a depth of 1 kilometer and near-surface conductivity data to map geological structures related to mineral deposits. The initial survey at Tolukuma spans 2,500 square kilometers, followed by a 200 square kilometer survey over the nearby Ipi River EL2780. Subsequently, EGL will cover Mt Penck EL 2662 in New Britain, encompassing 185 square kilometers.
This survey is designed to bolster Tolu Minerals’ technical database by pinpointing new geophysical targets. The resistivity data from the airborne MT will be analyzed to guide the depth and location of future drill targets. Tolu Minerals expects this information to lead to the discovery of new targets, necessitating further geological mapping, sampling, and drilling.
