Leadership Transition at CNA Financial Corporation

Doug Worman, currently executive vice president and global head of underwriting at CNA Financial Corporation, will assume the roles of president and chief executive starting next year.

The transition will involve the current chairman and CEO, Dino E. Robusto, moving to the position of executive chairman. In his new role beginning in 2025, Robusto will oversee the CNA board of directors and act as a strategic advisor to Worman, aiding in the company’s strategic goals.

Before his tenure at CNA, Worman held significant positions, including CEO of Endurance US Insurance, executive vice president of Alterra Capital Holdings, and CEO of Alterra US Insurance. His career began at AIG, where he ascended through various underwriting and management roles, eventually becoming president and CEO of AIG Excess Casualty Group.

Worman, looking ahead to his new responsibilities, aims to build on Robusto’s achievements and further elevate CNA as a leading property and casualty insurer. Since joining CNA in March 2017, Worman has been instrumental in advancing the company’s product organizations and business units. He has led the global underwriting committee, a role that earned him his current position in 2022. CNA operates across the US, Canada, and Europe.

James S. Tisch, a CNA board member and CEO of Loews Corporation, the company’s largest shareholder, acknowledged Robusto’s contributions over the past eight years, praising his efforts in achieving record profitability and top-tier underwriting performance. Tisch expressed gratitude for Robusto’s ongoing advisory role and conveyed confidence in Worman’s vision and leadership for CNA’s future.

Robusto expressed his confidence in Worman’s leadership, highlighting Worman’s expertise in underwriting and his contribution to strengthening CNA’s culture and profitability. Robusto, along with the board, believes Worman is well-equipped to lead CNA forward, emphasizing his talent for building organizational strength, fostering broker relationships, and driving innovation.
