Report: Value of global venture capital (VC) investment worldwide (2019 – 2024)
Global venture capital (VC) investment saw a significant increase during the pandemic, rising from $66.4 billion in the third quarter of 2019 to almost $200 billion in the fourth quarter of 2021. However, with the onset of the global recession in 2022 and 2023, VC investment dropped again, reaching around $73 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023. There is concern that stricter monetary conditions could lead to a substantial decrease in venture capital investment, particularly in its distribution to underserved regions such as Latin America and Africa. This would be unfortunate, as a lack of VC funding could lead to inadequate investment in innovation.
The technology, media, and telecommunications sector continued to dominate global venture capital investments in 2024, capturing the largest share of the value of funding rounds at 28.4%. The consumer sector followed, accounting for 25.1% of the total investment value.
