Zespri Promotes Jason Te Brake to CEO Position
Zespri has named Jason Te Brake as its new CEO after an extensive international search, as confirmed by Chairman Nathan Flowerday. Te Brake, who currently serves as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, will take over from Daniel Mathieson, who is set to join berry company Driscoll’s on July 1.
Te Brake’s appointment was praised by Flowerday, who highlighted his exceptional commercial and stakeholder management skills, as well as his strategic vision for Zespri’s future. He has been instrumental in leading the global supply chain and New Zealand supply business, achieving remarkable results even amid recent quality challenges, and contributing to a record crop this year.
Flowerday emphasized the growing demand for Zespri kiwifruit and the value it brings to the industry and communities. He expressed confidence in Te Brake’s ability to provide strategic continuity and leverage his industry knowledge to fulfill Zespri’s ambitious goals.
Te Brake expressed his enthusiasm for leading Zespri, acknowledging the industry’s history of success driven by quality products, strategic innovation, and collective problem-solving. He aims to capture market demand, enhance supply chain and operational performance, and maximize returns for growers.
He extended gratitude to Nathan Flowerday and the board for their confidence in him and to Daniel Mathieson for his mentorship. Mathieson’s leadership transformed Zespri into a premier sales and marketing organization, greatly benefiting growers and communities.
Flowerday also recognized Mathieson’s significant contributions, noting his effective leadership through periods of growth and challenges. He wished Mathieson success in his new role at Driscoll’s, highlighting his genuine care for people and the industry.
