Asia’s Wealthiest Tycoon, Mukesh Ambani Ventures into Ghana’s Telecom Market with Next-Gen InfraCo
Asia’s wealthiest tycoon, Mukesh Ambani, is making strides into Ghana’s telecom sector with Next-Gen InfraCo (NGIC), aiming to capitalize on the rapidly expanding mobile broadband market.
NGIC, driven by Reliance Industries Ltd.’s subsidiary Radisys Corp., plans to introduce 5G broadband services in Ghana later this year. Supported by industry leaders like Nokia, Tech Mahindra, and Microsoft, NGIC is set to provide affordable digital services in emerging markets, harnessing Ghana’s burgeoning telecom industry. Collaborations with local entities such as Ascend Digital Solutions Ltd. and K-NET, along with support from the Ghanaian government, are strengthening NGIC’s market presence.
NGIC has secured exclusive rights to offer 5G services in Ghana for the next decade, aligning with the country’s ambition to achieve nationwide digital connectivity within six years. With a substantial investment of $145 million over three years, NGIC aims to replicate the success of Ambani’s Jio Infocomm Ltd. in India. Ghana, with a population exceeding 33 million, offers a promising market for NGIC due to the increasing demand for cost-effective mobile broadband services.
