Canopius Group Welcomes Soon Keen Lee as APAC & MENA CEO
Canopius Group, a global specialty insurer and reinsurer, has appointed Soon Keen Lee as the Chief Executive Officer for Asia Pacific (APAC) and the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) regions. Lee will report directly to Canopius Group CEO Neil Robertson, pending regulatory approval.
Joining the Canopius Group Leadership Team, Lee will oversee the APAC Business Unit, operating from Singapore and Australia. She succeeds Mark Newman, who transitioned to the role of UK CEO in London after serving as Canopius APAC CEO for an extended period. In her new capacity, Lee will lead the regional Executive Committee and drive the evolution of Canopius’ APAC operations, which experienced a remarkable 35% growth in 2023.
Lee brings extensive experience from her tenure at AIG APAC, where she held key roles, including Head of Commercial Property and SME for APAC. With 28 years in the industry, she has held various prominent positions in P&C insurance.
Lee articulated her commitment to advancing Canopius’ position in the region, aiming to surpass ambitious targets annually. She highlighted opportunities to strengthen Canopius’ standing as a leading Lloyd’s syndicate in Singapore and expand its burgeoning presence in Australia. Lee also expressed eagerness to lead talented teams in both Singapore and Australia, emphasizing her dedication to representing Canopius’ APAC business within the dynamic management team.
Robertson expressed enthusiasm about Lee joining Canopius, praising her market knowledge and leadership qualities, which align with the company’s culture and growth aspirations.
Her appointment underscores Canopius’ strategic focus on bolstering its presence and driving transformation in the APAC and MENA regions under Lee’s capable leadership.
