Aziz Akhannouch is Morocco’s Richest Man
Morocco’s Head of Government and billionaire Aziz Akhannouch has once again secured a spot on the 2024 list of Africa’s wealthiest individuals, alongside Moroccan businessman Othman Benjelloun. Akhannouch is the 14th richest individual on the continent, boasting a net worth of $1.7 billion.
Akhannouch, who assumed office as head of government in September 2021, holds the primary stake in Akwa Group, an expansive conglomerate founded by his father and business partner, Ahmed Wakrim, in 1932.
The conglomerate’s investments span the petroleum, gas, and chemicals sectors, with notable holdings in publicly traded companies such as Afriquia Gaz and Maghreb Oxygene.
While Akhannouch’s wealth experienced a slight contraction from $2 billion to the current $1.5 billion between 2022 and 2023, he maintained a global ranking among the world’s richest individuals.
