Francoise Bettencourt Meyers is the first woman with a $100 billion fortune
Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the vice-chairperson of L’Oréal board, has recently become the first woman to possess a fortune of $100 billion. This makes her the 12th wealthiest person in the world. Bettencourt Meyers is the only child of Liliane Bettencourt, whose father, Eugène Schueller, founded the L’Oréal Group. Along with her family, she is the largest shareholder in L’Oréal, holding around 35% of the stake.
Bernard Arnault, the founder of LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group, with a portfolio of high-end brands like Fendi and Louis Vuitton, was second on the list with a net worth of $179 billion. Although she is still far behind him, she is also a wealthy individual.
L’Oréal was established in 1909 by Eugène Schueller. He invented a hair dye and started manufacturing and marketing it. Today, the company is a global giant worth €241 billion, listed on the Paris Stock Exchange. Many celebrities and supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Beyoncé, and Pénelope Cruz have endorsed the brand using its famous slogan: “Because I’m worth it.”
