Stephen Weiland Takes the Helm of Hyzon Motors as its new CFO
Hyzon Motors Inc. (NASDAQ: HYZN), a prominent developer of high-power hydrogen fuel cell technology and a global provider of heavy-duty fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) with zero emissions, has officially announced the appointment of Stephen Weiland as the company’s Chief Financial Officer, effective November 1, 2023.
Jiajia Wu, who has been serving as the company’s interim CFO since April 2023, will transition into the role of Senior Vice President, Finance and Accounting. During his interim CFO role, Wu successfully led Hyzon through important financial and accounting milestones in 2023, including filing multiple quarterly and annual periodic reports and implementing crucial governance and control processes.
In his role as CFO, Weiland will have the responsibility of overseeing Hyzon’s financial operations, which include financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, investor relations, and IT. He brings to the table over two decades of experience, having previously served as CFO in various capacities, leading growth capital programs, executing transactions in the cleantech sector, and implementing crucial financial processes. Most recently, he held the position of CFO at Boom Supersonic, where he oversaw the financial and IT functions of the supersonic aircraft manufacturer. Prior to his role at Boom, Weiland was associated with Caterpillar, serving as a Division CFO for manufacturing and engineering, digital, and procurement divisions.
Parker Meeks, CEO of Hyzon, emphasized Weiland’s extensive experience, while Weiland himself expressed enthusiasm about joining Hyzon, a company that’s actively contributing to the hydrogen transition and deploying zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles globally.
Weiland’s professional background includes accounting, as he initiated his career in audit as a certified public accountant before transitioning to investment banking. His financial leadership and transaction experience span across diverse industries, encompassing transportation and emerging technology.
Weiland holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
