25 of the world’s oldest billionaires in 2023, ranked
It should be no shock when Rupert Murdoch, at 92 years old, declares his retirement. The age of many business leaders, such as Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway, has been in the spotlight lately. Buffett, who’s 93, recently said that it’ll be quite some time before his successor takes over, while his vice chair, Charlie Munger, continues to work at the impressive age of 99.
The latest report from the CEOWORLD magazine executive council reveals that there are 2,534 billionaires worldwide, consisting of a wide variety of male and female individuals with ages varying from 19 to 102. George Joseph, who is the founder of the insurance company Mercury General, holds the title of the world’s oldest billionaire at the age of 102. On the other hand, Hong Kong business magnate Li Ka-shing is the wealthiest among the 25 oldest billionaires in the world.
How old is too old to lead?
The expression “age is only a state of mind” is aptly illustrated in the current average age of newly appointed CEOs of the S&P 500 and Fortune 500. Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Carl Icahn, Stephen Schwarzman, Larry Ellison, and Bob Iger are some of the most notable names who have remained at the helm of their respective companies, ranging in age from 72 to 87.
