Iceland Seafood International Taps Brim COO as CEO
Iceland Seafood International (ISI) has appointed Ægir Páll Friðbertsson, the Chief Operating Officer of local competitor Brim, as its new Chief Executive Officer. Friðbertsson, who served as COO at Brim for five years, will take over the role of CEO at Iceland Seafood International. He succeeds Bjarni Ármannsson, who has led ISI since January 2019.
Simultaneously, Sjávarsýn, a holding company wholly owned by Ármannsson, has divested its 10.83% stake in ISI to Brim. Through Sjávarsýn, Ármannsson was the second-largest shareholder of ISI.
This change in leadership comes shortly after ISI sold its UK division to Espersen, a Danish seafood producer. ISI had initially planned to retain its UK business but changed course after two unsuccessful attempts to sell it.
Friðbertsson is set to assume his new role at ISI on November 1. He expressed optimism about the company’s potential and looks forward to collaborating with employees, suppliers, and customers to further develop the business. He emphasized ISI’s strong position in Europe, built on a long-standing track record of quality, innovation, and product reliability.
Ármannsson described his time at ISI as a learning experience marked by external challenges. He expressed confidence in Ægir Páll Friðbertsson, citing his knowledge, drive, and leadership qualities as assets that will propel ISI forward.
