Flexport CEO Resigns after One Year
Flexport’s CEO, Dave Clark, recently announced his resignation from the supply chain software startup in a post on the social media platform X. In this surprising move, Clark is handing over the leadership reins to the company’s founder and executive chair, Ryan Petersen, after just one year as CEO and a mere six months leading the company on his own.
In his public statement on X, Clark mentioned, “Today, Ryan and I discussed his desire to return to focusing on growth in the core freight business. In light of that, I feel that he is best suited to lead the company in that direction. As such, I will be resigning from my position at Flexport.”
According to reports, this decision was not disclosed to investors before the public announcement, catching many by surprise. Clark and Petersen initially shared the role of co-CEOs at Flexport starting in September of the previous year, with Clark eventually assuming the sole CEO position in March. Interestingly, there are reports that Clark is contemplating a run for the governorship in Texas, his place of residence.
Petersen founded Flexport back in 2013 with the ambitious goal of revolutionizing the management of global goods transportation by sea, air, road, and rail. Last June, Flexport had already announced Petersen’s intention to step down as CEO in March 2023, allowing Clark to take the helm while Petersen transitioned into the role of executive chair.
Notably, this news follows closely on the heels of Dave Clark’s departure from Amazon, where he had a great career spanning over two decades. He played a pivotal role in shaping Amazon’s logistics and fulfillment network. Furthermore, in July, it was announced that Petersen would be joining Founders Fund, a venture capital fund founded by billionaire entrepreneur Peter Thiel.
