Green Bay Packers Appoint the New CFO
On August 18, The Green Bay Packers appointed Maureen Smith as the Chief Financial Officer, as announced by Mark Murphy, President and CEO of the Packers.
In her new role, in addition to overseeing the Packers’ financial operations, Smith will also have responsibility for the club’s information technology department, and she is set to assume her responsibilities in September.
Smith brings with her over two decades of diverse experience spanning various industries. Her most recent role was with Minnesota United FC of Major League Soccer, where she spent seven years. She started as a controller in 2016 and was subsequently promoted to Senior Vice President of Finance the following year. In 2018, she achieved the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, which was a noteworthy accomplishment as only a few women at that time held such a position in MLS.
During her tenure at Minnesota United FC, she was instrumental in leading core business functions during the club’s significant evolution from a minor league start-up with 50 employees to a Major League Soccer club with over 150 full-time and 300 part-time employees. She also oversaw the development and launch of Allianz Field, a $250 million soccer stadium.
Maureen Smith embarked on her career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in public accounting and subsequently spent more than ten years as an independent consultant for small businesses.
