Oualid Lahsini is the new CEO of Brevan Howard for the Middle East
Oualid Lahsini has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer by Brevan Howard Asset Management for its Middle East operations.
Lahsini, previously a partner at Ares Management Corp., where he held the position of Head of Middle East and Africa Relationship Management, is set to take on additional responsibilities as he leads client engagements in MENA and Asia at Brevan Howard. Lahsini will report directly to Natalie Faye Smith, who serves as the Head of Strategy and the Client Partnership Group.
The investment firm, headquartered in Jersey, is renowned for its expertise in macro trading and recent endeavors in the realm of digital assets. As part of its strategic expansion plan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Brevan Howard has relocated its co-founder, Trifon Natsis, to Abu Dhabi. This move aligns with the UAE’s emergence as a prominent hub for hedge funds within the region. Oualid Lahsini will also be situated in Abu Dhabi. Note that Abu Dhabi makes efforts to attract international investments and financial institutions.
A notable example is Ray Dalio, who is in the process of establishing a branch of his family office within the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), the emirate’s international financial free zone. Over the past year, ADGM has successfully enticed several major hedge funds, venture capital firms, and cryptocurrency companies. Additionally, Abu Dhabi has unveiled plans to expand ADGM tenfold, positioning it to become one of the world’s largest financial districts.
The UAE already hosts various alternative investment firms. For instance, Izzy Englander’s Millennium Management maintains a presence in Dubai, while ExodusPoint, one of the largest multi-strategy hedge funds managed by Michael Gelband, has also ventured into the emirate’s financial landscape.
