FREYR Battery Announces its New CEO
According to a press release of the Freyr Battery Company, Birger Steen, the former Microsoft CEO, has been selected as the CEO and a member of the Board of the company.
The current CEO, Tom Einar Jensen, will transition to the role of working Chairman, while the Founder and working Chairman, Torstein Dale Sjøtveit, will retire. Steen, who currently holds the position of Chairman of the Board at Nordic Semiconductor ASA and Pagero, will take on the role of CEO at Freyr starting from August 21.
During the press release, Sjøtveit stated: “By appointing Birger as CEO and having Tom as working Chairman, I can step down in accordance with our succession plan, confident that the organization is in highly capable hands. I express my gratitude for the backing we’ve received from our shareholders, employees, customers, strategic partners, board members, and other crucial stakeholders who have contributed to Freyr’s accomplishments since its establishment in 2018.”
Apart from the managerial changes, Freyr is set to relocate its main company from Luxembourg to the United States in the course of 2023, while the exact location within the United States has not yet been disclosed.
Giga Arctic stands as Freyr Battery’s proposed battery factory. Its location is in Mo i Rana. Additionally, the company has outlined its plans for a venture in the United States involving the construction of the Giga America factory in Coweta County, Georgia.
