Yes You Can: How can we stop making excuses for ourselves?

Michalis Kostopoulos

We all have dreams, we all have goals, we all really want something through our hearts, through our souls. So, while the heart really wants something very much in us, it thirsts to achieve it and lives for it, at the same time the mind comes and says “it can’t be done, I can’t”.

People give up so easily, stuck in a chair, watching their lives go by without doing anything. Achieving your goals is not just a matter of discipline and perseverance. It has a direct relationship with how you motivate yourself and whether you stay focused on your goal.

Our beliefs are the ones that stimulate us mentally, those that give us the courage to continue to move forward and transform what seems unattainable into achievable. But what is perseverance?

Perseverance is a cultured, noble stubbornness. Perseverance is to wake up in the morning and say let’s go and conquer the day, to give everything you have out of mental, emotional, and physical strength to achieve your goals. A force that unquestionably defeats everything. A force that success is its only option. Each one of us is special for his own special reason.

Competition should not exist between people but between last year’s and today’s selves. How much have we changed in a year? “I will pass this lesson and I will get a degree”, we said, “I will lose these extra pounds”, we said, “I will stop tolerant so many of the others”, we said, “I will learn to say no”, we said, “I will read this book”, we said, how many “will” we say anymore and how much did we realize? How many excuses have we made to ourselves so that he does not feel remorse for abandoning them?

So how can we go from “I can’t” to “I can”? How can we stop making excuses for ourselves? First of all, we must clearly define what we want to achieve and why we want it. In any other case, everything will seem uncertain and vague, thus making it impossible to go further. Then, by collecting information, we will have to find out what skills we will need, and if we do not have them to take care to acquire them. It is very important that we do not deviate, that is, we should stick to our objective until we succeed, without making any discounts.

And finally, let’s not forget that the best time to start something is now, because too much thinking is not always good.
