6 Ways You Can Enhance The Life Of Your Favourite Winter Coat
If you’d ask me, I will always pick a winter coat over any other winter clothing. It is aesthetic, beautiful, and highly sophisticated. You can wear anything underneath but would look dashing nevertheless with your coat on. That is the charm of a winter coat, and I just can’t compliment it enough. That being said, just like most winter clothing, winter coats are difficult to maintain. The more expensive your winter coat is, the more you will end up spending on its maintenance—or, you can simply read about a few tips.
Of course, the tips I am going to mention here are not a one-stop solution. You have to be consistent with them so that your winter coat does not suffer. While there are plenty of ways to enhance the life of a winter coat, the following 6 are among the most effective ones.
With this, let us know what you can do to protect your winter coat from harm.
- Don’t fold them
We all often become ridiculously lazy, and the impact of our laziness falls on our clothes. A winter coat is, thus, no exception. You must recall a number of instances when you have casually slipped your folded winter coat into the closet without even looking back. Yes, that one! Don’t do that if you want your coat to keep its charm. Folds or creases can weaken the fabric and can significantly affect the look of your coat. Instead, always hang your coat on well-made hangers. Make sure those hangers are of the right size and do not unnecessarily stretch out the fabric. - Wrap them up in a bag
Of course, a winter coat stays in your closet until winter, and then it is time to change fashion. You will have to remove all your winter clothes to make room for your summer clothes. Of all your winter clothing, your winter coat deserves extra care. Purchase a good garment bag and place your coat inside it. Do not put inside mothballs because they contain potentially harmful chemicals. Always go for natural substitutes. Then, finally, seal the bag nicely and put it away in a cool place. - Even your coat needs a breather
Not many know this but you need to give your coat some space. A closet is a world of its own; it is either too neatly maintained or crowded. Whatever your way of handling the closet is, you need to consider the needs of at least the winter coat. Winter coats lose their firmness if kept in closed spaces. You will have to take them out from time to time while the season is alive. Also, when you hang them in the closet, make sure they have been adequately separated from other clothes. - Give them a day off
Okay, you bought that fancy winter coat after a long waiting period but that does not entitle you to over-wear it. Wearing the coat can cause wrinkles and affect the elasticity of the fabric. It is recommended that you avoid wearing your coat two days in a row unless there is nothing else to wear at all. Fashion experts say that there should be at least a day’s gap before you wear the coat again. The time allows the fabric to bounce back. - Brush away the dirt
Do not jerk the dirt from the coat. It won’t get rid of the dirt or help you enhance the life of the coat. One of the things you should have at home is a suede brush. A suede brush is a life-saver and helps in removing fine dust particles from a woollen fabric. Every time you come back home make sure you brush your coat. Do not let the dirt sit on the fabric because this will weaken the fabric and may cause discolouration. - Keep the pockets empty
Once you are home, it is time to remove all the items from the pockets of the coat. The material of these items can cause discolouration and affect the elasticity of the fabric if kept for a longer duration. Avoid overloading the pockets and keep them light. Keeping heavy accessories in pockets cause coats to lose their shape.
