Recommended: The 10 Best Air Purifying Plants For The Home

A good and healthy lifestyle is a direct product of the air we breathe, the environment we dwell in, and the habits we inculcate. This also explains the reason why its important to be close to nature as much as possible, because as important money-making is to lead a fulfilling life, having an environment that fosters healthy mind and soul is no less important. It is the reason why successful people believe in waking up early in the morning to be one with their bodies and nature, as it provides a good enough foundation for a successful and fulfilling day ahead. Of course, with the recent pandemic we all have been forced to convert our homes into nature parks, gyms and the quintessential offices, and so,it only makes sense to make our homes into ambient, feel good airy spaces. This means getting in some air purifiers to clear the air, and what better air purifier than a plant? This article sums up the best air purifying plants to have in your good vibes only home.

  1. Chrysanthemums (Chrysanthemum morifolium): It looks beautiful as a house accessory and cleans the air for you too. As long as you have house windows that receive plenty of sunlight, this plant is a no brainer.
Plant care: Check the soil’s moisture every other day, and keep it damp.
Toxic to animals: Even though it has a friendly name, mums are toxic to both cats and dogs.
    Eliminates: formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, ammonia
  2. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum): The spider plant is low on maintenance and is therefore perfect for those who are not much into plants. Plus, it is also harmless towards your pets, and dare we say, it does look good.

Plant care: Water your spider plants two to three times a week.
Non-toxic: For children or animals who like to play with swinging things, this plant is safe.
    Eliminates: formaldehyde, xylene

  3. English ivy (Hedera helix): A vine that eventually becomes part of your house, the English ivy makes it case as another solid air detoxifier, especially for smells that can cloud your lavatory or bathroom. It is easy to grow and returns a good dose of clean air. All it requires is proper hydration and decent helpings of sunlight in a day.
Plant care: Water generously during growth, but don’t overwater during the winter.
Toxic to animals and humans: Although the English ivy thrives almost anywhere, it’s known to cause problems in dogs, farm animals, and humans when eaten. The chemicals in the sap can also cause severe contact dermatitis in humans, especially those with sensitive skin.
Eliminates: benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, and more
  4. Chinese evergreen (Aglaonema): Another one for your bathroom, as this plant loves moisture and can do well without ample sunlight too. It helps in clearing the air from chemicals like formaldehyde and benzene.
Plant care: Water moderately and allow compost to almost dry out before watering. Chinese evergreens like high humidity, a little regular misting, and getting repotted every few years.
Toxic to animals: Chinese evergreen plants are toxic to dogs.
Eliminates: benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, and more
  5. Snake Plant: Do not be intimidated by the name, as its more commonly used name (read mother in law’s tongue) wont help matters much. What definitely helps is the fact that this aesthetically good-looking plant releases good dosages of oxygen during the night. Keep it hydrated. But not too much!
  6. Barberton Daisy: This is a good addition to your home not only because it cleans the air of any toxins, but because it also comes with a whole array of vibrant colors which spice up the ambience to new levels. This also does not require much maintenance, as long as you keep the soil bed hydrated and treat the plant to generous helpings of sunlight.
  7. Weeping Fig Tree: These plants do require a lot of care and attention. But if you can give them those, weeping figs ensure that your home is a welcome place to be in. Their lush, leafy texture and longevity means they flourish all year long, year after year.
  8. Broadleaf Lady Palm: Broadleaf Lady Palm are not cheap on the money, but what they lack in cost effectiveness they more than make up in the value front. They help cleanse the air of ammonia, which is a bragging right very few plants have. They are must haves for any household that utilizes a lot of cleaning products.
  9. Dragon Tree: The leaves are spiky with colorful edges, which means that the dragon tree plant or the Red Edged Dracaena is a good aesthetic addition to your household. It also helps in cleaning the air of alcoholic mists. They grow slowly though, so get one that is already in bloom.
  10. Aloe Vera: Known mostly for its miraculous medicinal uses and its ease of use as a skin healing tool, Aloe Vera also boasts of excellent air purifying abilities. It is also catchy to look at. No wonder it can be found in many a household as a standard balcony plant, something that can be used on a daily basis apart from cleaning the air.
