These are the countries with the largest number of immigrants
The United States is home to by far the largest number of immigrants (foreign-born individuals), a new report on the world’s immigration patterns, 5.7 times more than in the United Kingdom (8.4 million) and 6.3 times more than in Canada (7.64 million). In 2015, more than 48.2 million immigrants lived in the United States, accounting for roughly 15.1 percent of the country’s population.
Russia, the country with the second-highest number of immigrants, has 11.6 million. The United States is home to more immigrants (foreign-born individuals) than Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Germany combined. Notably, India places 12th on the list with 5.2 million immigrants in the country – making up 0.4% of the total population.
Immigration consultants Bright Immigration noted that immigration could be vital in helping nations to have enough young workers in the economy to support their aging populations. As countries age, many will be short of workers to support social programs relied on by the older population.
