The 30 Countries Spending The Most On Their Military, 2018

With defense spending totaling $610 billion in 2017, the United States spends more than any other nation on military in the world, while China ($228 billion) and Saudi Arabia ($69 billion) placed second and third, respectively. But as a percent of the gross domestic product, the United States spends about 3.3%, far less than many countries.

To create a list of countries spending the most on their military, the CEOWORLD magazine reviewed numerous national and international media reports. Data used to score and rank countries was taken from the CIA’s World Factbook, other publicly available information, research papers, and academic studies. This list was condensed to what we considered the world’s top 30 countries spending the most on their military.

These are the 30 countries that have the highest military expenditures as a percent of the gross domestic product, calculated on an exchange rate basis. See where the United States falls on this list?
