Rod Proto Shares His Insights on Becoming an Impactful CEO
Learning to be a better business founder, leader, and CEO is how you stay ahead of the market. The growth of your business, the development of people supporting its operations, and the way your business impacts other stakeholders will affect how you do as a CEO.
Becoming an impactful CEO – one that drives social change and innovation – is a necessity. We spoke to Rod Proto, a senior advisor waste management expert, about how he turned his endeavors into activities that matter to the stakeholders around him. Here are some of the insights we picked up.
It Starts with Those Closest to You
Before you can even begin to think about impacting the communities around your business and the market as a whole, you need to first take care of the people closest to you. This means looking after employees; they are the biggest assets for your business after all.
There are a number of things you can do to really take good care of your employees. Creating a healthy work environment is the right first step to take in most situations. As a CEO, you need to make sure that employees can show their best work without dealing with a toxic environment and unnecessary distractions.
It is also your responsibility as a CEO to allow employees to grow professionally and personally. Employee development is directly affecting the growth of the business. It is the driving factor behind sustainable growth and success.
Be the Driving Force
Speaking of driving factors, CEOs are also the biggest driving forces behind social change, especially in today’s modern world. The way businesses interact with local communities, government entities, and other stakeholders will dependon the directives given by the CEO.
In other words, you have to be willing to assume that role and take a more active stance in driving social changes as a CEO. Before a business can become a part of its community, the CEO needs to understand how to become a part of that community too.
Proto stated that it is “important to be part of the community in any business, as that is where customers and employees are.” The closer you are to the community, the more impactful your business will be, and the more social changes you can bring to that community.
A Business Model That Gives Back
Social impacts aren’t just limited to CSR campaigns and community-related activities. In today’s market, it is actually necessary to have a business model that gives back and contributes to the greater good. Once again, your role as CEO of the company means it is up to you to get the ball rolling.
For example, you can start a personal development program that rewards employees who contribute their time to charity work. Follow that up with giving employees two hours out of their week for them to use. It is a small initiative, but the impact it could potentially produce is gigantic.
Being an impactful CEO starts with taking the initiative and steering the company in the right direction. With these insights from Rod Proto, making the decision to take that first step should be easier to do.
