How Does Technology Help To Reduce Car Accidents?

In a rapidly changing society, it is not surprising to witness numerous technological inventions that are changing how things are being done. More and more people are creating innovations that aim at solving some of the common challenges that humans have faced over the years.

Over the years automobile industry has been one of the leading sectors that have witnessed rapid technological changes. Though no one wants to be in an accident but in case you were the unfortunate one, you shouldn’t be afraid to file a lawsuit for maximum car accident settlement. However, with the impressive 21st-century auto-technologies car accidents have reduced drastically. Let’s take a look at some of those top auto-technologies.

Adaptive headlights

An impressive technology that is considered to have minimized road accidents drastically. Adaptive headlights are car headlights that also turn when the steering wheel is turned. How does this top road accidents? If you have driven down a dark road, you probably know how difficult it may be to spot an oncoming vehicle or even a deer on the road. This technology lets you see what’s on the road at all times.

Forward Collision Systems (FCS)

A lot of people will end up in rear-end accidents for the simple reason that they were either looking at their phone or were looking at another side of the road. In such a case, the forward collision system will be God-sent. Through this technology, a car will be able to automatically measure the distance between itself and the one in front and reduce the car’s speed to minimize the impact of the crash.

Electronic Stability Control

ESC is a breakthrough technology that does a great job at preventing cars from sliding out of control even in risky climates. It works by reducing a car’s engine power by applying breaks to wheels during a run-off-road crash. This technology has proven to be quite useful with the likelihood that it can prevent about 50% of total car crashes or roll-overs.

Vehicle communication

Self-driving cars have been a key focus in the automobile sector. This technology would require cars to have some vehicle to vehicle communication to prevent any collisions. Communication will mostly be done through the use of GPS coordinates and other new age sensors being developed. It is, however, worth noting that the technology will not only communicate with other cars but will also need to detect other pedestrians and road users such as cyclists that are within the proximity of the vehicle.

Traction Control systems

It is a high technology that helps to eliminate accidents on slippery roads. The traction control system prevents the wheel from spinning during times of acceleration or when the car is starting off, especially on wet road surfaces. This technology is relatively different from the anti-lock braking system which aims at preventing the locking of brake pads by slowly reducing the braking pressure applied. To ensure the wheels of a car do not spin unexpectedly when a person is driving off on a slippery surface, the torque of each wheel is reduced at the same time. This technology is useful in lowering car accidents as it reduces traction in the wheel and helps to avoid instability when driving.

Lane departure warning/prevention

Lane departure is also a recent technology that aims at either alerting the driver or taking control of the vehicle. For lane departure warning, the driver will receive an alert on the dashboard or some beeps when the car starts to drift from its lane. Lane departure prevention, on the other hand, will try to steer the vehicle into the correct lane if it starts to veer off its lane. The quality of this technology will, however, depend on the type of car. While some cars do a great job at keeping the car in the middle of their lane, some just cause the vehicle to swerve across its lane. It is essential to determine whether the technology fitted in your car is a lane departure warning or prevention.

Auto-technologies have helped to reduce number of car accidents around the world. With these and upcoming technology and innovation car accidents will decrease significantly.
